A Mother's love

It's 8pm in Tennessee on Sunday night...
Sara is sitting by Ethan's bedside and being his cheerleader, comforter and strength. During a phone conversation with her, I could hear Ethan's tiny voice in the background as he called out to his mommy. As they had their conversation... I could hear it in her voice...she is being so strong. I'd say that I don't know how she's doing it...but I know her strength comes from the only One who is able to give strength in the enormous quantities that she needs right now.
Sara is simply amazed at the love that everyone has shown to them. She spoke of a wonderful local Pastor, Gary Dodd, who has been there with her praying and ministering to her each day that she has been there. Members of his church have all sent cards and well wishes to her... but she says, "they don't even know us!" I assured her that there are far more people praying for the two of them than she can ever imagine...people from all across the country. A few local Nashville friends of friends here in CA have gone to visit her and pray with her... they don't know her either, but have been called to her side.
It means so much to her and she thanks
everyone from the bottom her heart.
Ethan's condition is not quite what they are calling "stable", but he is not considered to be in the "critical" state anymore. He continues to take antibiotics to fight the infection in his lungs. It is not pneumonia, but there is some congestion in his chest. Each day they get him up for just a bit and have him take a few steps. He is also sitting up for a portion of each day. Some of the time he is able to have some nice conversations with his mom. He says that he really misses his friends very much. Other conversations are not as easy for Sara to have with him. He is in quite a bit of pain. Those of us with 6 year olds, or young children know that they can't understand it when they are in pain, they get mad when it won't go away... Ethan is unhappy that he is in pain. The biggest request that Sara has is that we would all be praying for God's miraculous removal of Ethan's pain. It is understandably the hardest part of all that they are going through.
Ethan is having hydrotherapy every three days. He will be having it tomorrow. During the procedure they give him Ketamine, which puts him "under" so that he will not feel any pain during the treatment. The hydrotherapy is basically a process where they clean his skin and put on new bandages. This Tuesday at 9:30 am, TN time, Ethan will be having his next surgery to remove the cadaver skin on his chest and neck and replace it with skin grafts from his legs. During and after the surgery for a short time, Ethan will be back on the ventilator
and will be more heavily sedated.
Another request that Sara has made for prayer is that Ethan will begin eating. He doesn't have the desire to eat anything that they have offered to him. Because of this, he is continuing to be fed through a tube in his nose. He is most likely not hungry due to all of the medication that he is on, but it would be awesome for his appetite to return.
Monday morning, tomorrow, the intercessors prayer team at Hillcrest Christian School where Ethan attends first grade, will be having a time of prayer with Sara by speaker phone. We will be joining together with her and raising our voices to the Lord on Ethan's behalf. This will be happening between about 8:30 am - 9:30 am. You are invited to join in with us from wherever you are and make your requests known before our Lord. He is listening, and He promises that whenever two or three are gathered in His name that He is there...He will be with you wherever you are praying, as we become one in prayer.

Sara,
I was so happy to read that you are able to communicate with Ethan, you are a WONDERFUL mom and your strength is what he needs. It sounds like Ethan is progressing by leaps and bounds and that is not surprising given his great spirit.
You are in our thoughts everyday.
Caleb remembers his "races in the park" with Ethan and wants him to come home soon. Get Well!
Love,
Shelley, Nate, Caleb, Maddy & Joshua Myer
Hi, Sara,
It is great to hear that Ethan is more alert and able to communicate with you. We will continue to pray for both of you and wish you the best. On Friday at chapel Daniela prayed that Ethan would feel better and be back at school soon. All the kids at Hillcrest wish the same for Ethan. They miss him and will continue to pray for him and you. Sara we all miss you here at Hillcrest. We will continue to pray for strength for you during the this difficult time.
All our love,
Christina, Joe, Juliana and Daniela De Giosa
Philippians 4:13 --- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, insurance called Faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success.
I just want to tell you and Ethan are in my thoughts and in my prayers everyday.
I am happy that you can talk to Ethan and that he is getting better little by little God is working I can see his hand on him.
Christian said yesterday that Ethan told him that you are the best mom ever and I agree with that.
We will keep praying!!!
love you,
Maria and Christian
Dear Ethan,
Hi Baby! We miss you so much at school. Today, when the class wrote their spelling sentences we used your name several times. In fact, we used it so many times that I think I may just use it as a surprise bonus word on Friday, but don't tell. It'll be our secret! You're pretty much a celebrity as far as we're concerned. You'll probably have to sign autographs when you come home.
We are also praying for you at least 7 different times a day, one time for each year old that you are and 1 more for your upcoming 7th birthday.
We squeezed the monkey for you twice today and tomorrow we're going to dedicate a dance to you, you know the one we do in between tests on Wednesdays. Tomorrow it's just for you!!!!
Gotto go - Yaiden is having a tantrum and it's driving me bananas! Yikes, I guess I have to squeeze the monkey again.
I think that if the doctors and nurses are bugging you, you should tell them that they're driving you bananas!Ha, ha, ha!
All My Love.

Dear Ethan and Sara-
I miss you so much in art class!!!You are such an awesome artist and I can't wait for you to be able to draw and paint again. I'm sending along your portfolio so you can look at what you did this year and maybe put some up in your room!
;God loves you both so much and He knows exactly why He has chosen the two of you for His purpose.
I just showed Ethan's art work to my junior high class and they thought he was awesome! They really loved the dinosaurs. The picture of the fish, lion and butterfly represent Jesus in a totem pole for Jesus.
My youngest son Luke is in high school and his bible study is praying for Ethan as a group. They will be sending you something soon!
You are loved and missed by many!

Hello Sarah and Ethan,
You do not know me, but our family are prayer warriors in Simi Valley. I was compelled tonight to send this message to you with love. We have mutual friends and I was fortunate enough to go to Ethan's school and see the love and smiles that are surround both of you! We are surrounding you with God's peace in prayer and know that by HIS wounds we are healed. You are an inspiration, both of you and you have impacted lives in a supernatural way. Your trials have built stronger walls of faith in those touched by this event. Total sttrangers have been connectd in their faith positions through each challenge of Ethan's recovery. I met so many wonderful people at your school Ethan, you are so blessed to have so many friends and such wonderful teachers who love you and love the Lord. God's promises are real and we pray that you and your Mommy keep your focus on Jesus and the love He has for both of you.
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the thoughts I have for you (Ethan and Sarah), thought sof peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."
Sarah, as a Mom I am overcome by this trial upon you, God is not overcome...He is bigger than these burns and He will fulfill His promise to comfort you and strengthen you. I pray every day that you feel His arms wrapped around you tightly so you don't feel like you are holding this all together on your own. He has NOT forsaken you and He will make you whole.
With every hour we send hugs and prayers of healing and peace.
In His Joy,
Wendy, Nick and Ashlyn Bernacki
Keep your eyes on Heaven!
